Yesterday, we were pleased to welcome our local MP, Gareth Snell, to NSK to get an insight into what we’re all about and the role our gym plays within the local community.
During his visit, Gareth watched our Cobra class in action and had the opportunity to see the gym environment first-hand. We spoke about the importance of making sport accessible and affordable, and the opportunities that being involved in a martial arts club can provide.
A big part of our conversation was the role that sport and martial arts can play in children’s development. Training can help young people build confidence, discipline, resilience, teamwork and self-belief, while providing a positive environment where they can develop, make friends and feel part of a community.
We also talked about the benefits for our adult members, from improving fitness and wellbeing to having a supportive community around them. For many of our members, the gym is about much more than simply learning martial arts — it’s a place to challenge themselves, learn new skills and build confidence.
Of course, we couldn’t let Gareth leave without sharing some of the achievements of our members too. We talked about our national wins and success on the international stage, and the opportunities our fighters have to represent NSK at competitions across the country and beyond. 🏆🌍
While we’re incredibly proud of the medals and titles our members achieve, competition success is only one part of what makes our gym special. Some of the biggest achievements happen away from the competition floor — watching people overcome challenges, push themselves outside their comfort zones, develop new skills and grow in confidence.
And no visit to our Cobra class would be complete without a little something to take home! Gareth even earned himself his very own First Class certificate for being an excellent visitor. 😂🏆
It was great to have the opportunity to show Gareth around the gym, introduce him to some of our members and have some really positive conversations about the importance of sport and the role it can play in our local community.
Thank you, Gareth, for taking the time to visit NSK and see what we’re all about. 🥊💙
